There’s something about a good ol’ fashioned diner that feels right no matter where you are, no matter what time of day, no matter what your mood. In Montreal, it’s time for breakfast, and you should be very excited.
Since 1942, Beauty’s has been serving up some of the best breakfasts in town. The booths are worn, the silver counter sparkles, the line is out the door, the coffee is hot, and the humidity is through the roof. But it’s all worth it.
With a late start to the day, we didn’t make it to Beauty’s until nearly 11, and the line was around the corner. But Hymie, at 90 years old, still greets everyone with a smile and keeps that line moving. We were inside and seated in less than half an hour. Twenty minutes later a massive plate of food was placed in front of me, and it didn’t last long after that.
Here’s the thing: you can’t go wrong with the classics. Fried eggs, bacon, home fries… delicious. And Beauty’s knows what they’re doing. And while I side with the New York bagel, the Montreal bagel wasn’t half bad.
So if you’re ever in Montreal and find yourself at the corner of Mont Royal West and St. Urbain, get in line. You won’t be disappointed.
